Acquaintance
& Induction to Oil Spill Response (includes Ports) A quick familiarisation course designed to acquaint
appropriate personnel in to what oil spill response is all about, while allowing
them to appreciate and identify the salient points to be understood when a
response to an oil spill becomes necessary. QUALIFICATIONS AND SUITABILITY: There are no recommended
pre-qualifications for this course. It is suitable for all personnel requiring
to become acquainted in oil spill response: senior management; public
relations personnel; offshore installation management; ship managers. Back to TOP |

Oil
Spill Operator Equivalent to IMO Level 1 Course A course designed for personnel who will be
required to operate oil spill response equipment and clean-up staff who would
need supervision at a spill response site. Operational safety would be a key
element. QUALIFICATIONS AND SUITABILITY: There are no recommended pre-qualifications for this course.
It is suitable for all personnel who would be required to operate oil spill
response equipment: fitters, operators, mechanics, labourers, riggers, etc. Back to TOP |

Oil Spill Response Technician Equivalent to IMO Level 2 Course A course
designed for personnel who would form part of the response team and need a
high level of technical knowledge in order to assess situations and suggest
strategy. For example, the technician must be able to survey a beach site and
suggest a clean-up plan, levels of equipment and manpower, point out safety
issues, monitor and report on progress etc. Would form part of a spill response
team reporting to the executive decision makers. For small spills, may
actually be manager of the entire operation. QUALIFICATIONS AND SUITABILITY: The recommended pre-qualifications for this course include
good communication skills and a reasonable level of education. This course is
suitable for all personnel who undertake positions such as: Pollution
Officer, HSE Staff, Emergency Planning Officer, Oil Terminal Shift

Oil Spill Operations Supervisor (includes Ports) Equivalent to IMO Level 2
Course A course designed for personnel who would be expected to
manage teams of clean-up workers (oil spill operator level) at the clean-up site.
For small spills, may actually be manager of the entire operation. QUALIFICATIONS AND SUITABILITY: The recommended pre-qualifications for this course include:
previous supervisory, safety and man management skills. This course is
suitable for all personnel who undertake positions such as: Pollution
Officer, Shift Supervisor, HSE Staff, Terminal Manager, Deputy Harbour

Oil Spill Response Executive Commander Equivalent to IMO Level 3 Course A course designed for personnel who
would form part of the team that makes executive decisions, set priorities
and deal with external liaison. QUALIFICATIONS AND SUITABILITY: The recommended pre-qualifications for
this course include: Managerial, analytical, and communication skills. Basic
knowledge of technical spill response. This course is suitable for all
personnel who undertake positions such as: Port Captain, Emergency Planning Officer,

Oil Spill Operations Commander (Ports) Equivalent to IMO Level 3 Course A course designed for the person in
charge of the clean-up operation. QUALIFICATIONS AND SUITABILITY: The recommended pre-qualifications for
this course include: Senior Manager grades plus good knowledge of technical
spill response. This course is suitable for all personnel who undertake
positions such as Harbourmaster, Chief Executive, etc. Back to TOP |
