GEARS

1 day

General Environmental Awareness Requisites

A course designed as a scene setter for all management and senior staff employees who, in undertaking their normal functions, may precipitate or prevent pollution of the environment. This course brings to the attention of all staff an in depth awareness of how to protect the environment, within the daily operations of an industrial or commercial business.

 

No prerequisites

 

Course Description:

·       Legislation.

·       Products & Equipment for controlling and containment.

·       Personnel Training Structures

·       Spill Evaluation

·       Waste Disposal - Procedures and Requirements

·       Contingency Planning.

 

On completion, management and staff will be able to identify and associate themselves with the possible hazards surrounding their own working environment. Delegates will have a basic understanding of spill management and environmental management systems, which would enable them to identify appropriate personnel for selection to attend higher levels of instruction in pollution control.           Back to TOP

2 days

First Responders at Operational Level

A course designed for individuals, at the operations level, who would respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response at the spill site.

 

A course ideally suited for those personnel who, in their daily operational functions, would be at or near a potential source of contamination. Should the substances that they work with be deemed a pollutant if released, the main objective for these personnel will be to protect people, property and the environment from the effects of a release.

 

Course Description:

·       Knowledge of Basic Hazards and Risk Assessment Techniques.

·       Knowing how to Select and Use the Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided.

·       Understanding of the Basic Hazardous Material Terms e.g. as Used in MSDS and Labelling.

·       Being able to carry out Basic Control, Containment and Confinement Operations Using the Resources on site or that can be quickly and readily obtained.

·       Being able to Implement Simple Decontamination Procedures.

·       Understanding of their company’s Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Practice.

 

On completion, First Responders will have been trained to respond in a defensive fashion to control, contain and confine the release. They will be able to contain the release from a safe distance, keep it from spreading and prevent exposure to others. Delegates will be able to objectively demonstrate competency in the areas covered by the course content.                                                 Back to TOP

ESCAPE

5 days

Emergency Spill Control and Contingency Planning

A course specifically designed for senior management who, as part of their decision making functions, will be required to take responsibility to produce or oversee the production of contingency plans or prevent pollution of the environment.

 

The recommended pre-qualifications for this course include good communication skills, a reasonable level of education, previous supervisory safety and man management skills.

·       Introduction.

·       What is Contingency Planning?

·       Emergency Responses.

·       Spill Evaluation and Risk Assessments.

·       Understanding Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Practice.

 

This course is to facilitate the necessity for senior managers to understand how to go about contingency planning. It is NOT possible, in the duration of the course, to achieve all that is required, but to allow for a systematic follow up, via consultancy, the actual contingency planning requirements for the delegates’ type of business.                            Back to TOP

SEAS

Significant Environmental Aspects

The objective of the SEAS TRAINING PROGRAMME is to train course participants to independently identify and assess environmental aspects of any operation or activity, based on their company’s Environmental Aspects procedure.

 

The two-day training programme, based on this procedure, is devised specifically to allow the participants the optimum understanding of the topics that will be covered in the area of their own operation. Thus enabling them to be an important member of their company’s EMS Team.

 

Course Description:

·       Introduction and Overview (setting the scene).

·       The Identification Process of an Environmental Aspect within a Company’s Operation.

·       What is an Environmental Impact?

·       The Assessment of an Environmental Aspect.

·       The Determination and Prioritisation of Significance.

·       Management of Significant Environmental Aspects.

Train-the-Trainer for GEARS

The objective of this course is to train the trainer, with specific reference to environmental awareness, to enable the trainer to undertake the General Environmental Awareness Requisites “GEARS” course. No assumption has been made or inferred, that the participants of this training programme have an in-depth knowledge of environmental protection or pollution control. On completion, the trained participants will be able to deliver EMS awareness training independently.

 

This three-day training programme has been devised specifically to allow the participants the maximum interaction with the trainer and participate jointly in discussion and understanding of the topics that will be covered.

Lean Manufacturing Foundation Course

The objective is to coach participants in the fundamentals of Lean Manufacturing, based on the different aspects of the Toyota Production System (TPS), in order to streamline their businesses and increase their profits.

 

The five-day, 10-Module, training programme, based on TPS, has been devised specifically as a Foundation Course. Participants will have the opportunity to obtain the optimum understanding of the different elements that make up Lean Manufacturing. This will enable their businesses to become more cost effective, economical and much more profit orientated in today’s competitive marketplace.

ISO14001-2004 Foundation Course

This two-part foundation course is an introduction to the Environmental Management System, recognised internationally as ISO14001-2004. This international standard was introduced in 1996 and updated with many improvements in 2004. Delegates will obtain an understanding and the required fundamental knowledge to go ahead with initial preparations, within their own businesses, to incorporate an environmental management system to an international standard. The preparation, assessment and accreditation process to attain ISO14001-2004 will enable the business not only to become more cost effective, economical and much more profit orientated in today’s competitive marketplace, but they will also be known as a business that has a real corporate policy to protect the environment and those within it.

 

Course Description:

 

Part One: This looks at managing the environment, along with why it has become important to have international standards to protect the environment. We examine the relationships, elements and requirements of international standards on environmental auditing, eco-labelling, environmental performance evaluation and life cycle assessment. All the standards have been developed as part of the ISO 14000 series - a new series of standards designed to help organisations meet their environmental obligations and responsibilities.

 

Part Two: This discusses the route a business will take to achieve actual accreditation to the ISO14001-2004 international standard. The specification requirements for an EMS under ISO14001-2004 will look at:

·         Gaining of top management commitment to the EMS
