The Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change

“Economic development will not be sustained in the longer term unless the climate is stabilised."

2009 is a crucial year for the climate change agenda, which it is hoped will culminate in a new international climate deal being signed in Copenhagen in December 2009.

The Copenhagen Communiqué is a short, punchy 2-page statement that draws on some of the key thinking on climate policy that has emerged from the international business community over the past two years, and sets out the business case for a strong and effective UN climate framework.

See the text of the Communiqué here.

MPCEE is one of the many organisations from across the globe that have already endorsed the communiqué

"It has been almost 40 years since I created MPCEE. In this time I have seen the failures of different protocols, different conferences on themes to protect the environment from climate change, pollution and the inertia of the hydrocarbon economy. We are now past the point to reverse the ravages of climate change caused by man. We must now slow down the process of climate change, by redefining the measures that can be taken. Sustainability of the environment, coupled with the intelligent use of renewable energy, by overcoming the environmental, tecnological and financial barriers involved will also provide new economies, new industry and much needed employment. Developed nations must assist those nations that are less or underdeveloped."
